BOOX Palma 2 · Customization
Set up the Navigation Ball and gestures on the BOOX Palma 2
The Palma 2 has no page-turn buttons, so set the volume keys, the Navigation Ball and edge swipes for comfortable one-handed reading.
The Palma 2 has no physical page-turn buttons, so the volume keys, the Navigation Ball and the in-app tap zones do that job. Turn on volume-key page turns first, then put the Navigation Ball where your thumb naturally sits and fill it with the actions you use most.
Before you begin
-
Turn on volume-key page turns
In BOOX Settings, open "System", then "Volume control", and set the volume keys to turn pages. This works in NeoReader and most third-party readers, and it is the single most useful change on a device with no buttons.
-
Enable the Navigation Ball
In Settings, open "Navigation Ball" (sometimes under "System" or "Function"). Turn it on. A small floating dot appears; tap it and it fans out into a ring of shortcuts.
-
Assign the Navigation Ball actions
Set the slots to the things you reach for most — full refresh, back, home, screenshot, and a brightness or refresh-mode toggle. Keep it to four or five so the ring stays quick to read.
-
Position the ball for your thumb
Drag the dot to a bottom corner where your thumb rests when you hold the Palma 2 one-handed. It stays put across apps.
-
Check the in-app gestures
In NeoReader's settings, review the tap zones and swipe actions. On a one-handed device, set the "previous page" zone somewhere your thumb can reach without shuffling your grip — many people move it to the bottom.
-
Optional — a third-party gesture app
If you want more, an e-ink-friendly launcher or gesture app from the Play Store can add edge swipes, but the built-in tools cover most needs.
