Reading and writing settings on the reMarkable Paper Pure
The settings that make the Paper Pure comfortable — handedness and toolbar side, palm rejection, page-turn taps, default pen, the Marker button, and how PDFs fit the screen.
None of these are hidden or risky — they are the normal settings that decide whether the Paper Pure feels right. Set your handedness and toolbar side first, then a default pen, then the Marker button, and finally spend a minute per PDF getting the fit and zoom comfortable. The one thing you cannot adjust is lighting: there is no front light, so use ambient light or a clip-on lamp.
-
Set your writing hand and toolbar side
In Settings, then "General" (or "Stylus" / "Handedness"), choose left or right. This moves the floating toolbar to the other edge and tunes palm rejection so resting your hand does not leave marks. Left-handed users should set this first — the defaults assume right.
-
Adjust palm rejection if you still get stray marks
If the side of your hand still draws, make sure handedness is correct, and keep the Marker tip on the screen before you rest your palm — starting the stroke tells the device which input to trust.
-
Turn page-turn taps on or off
In the reading settings you can enable tapping the left and right edges of the screen to turn pages, or turn that off if you find you trigger it while writing near the edge. Swiping always works regardless.
-
Set a default pen and thickness
Pick the pen you use most — many people use the fineliner or ballpoint — and set its default thickness and shade. New notebooks then open with that selected instead of you choosing every time.
-
Assign the Marker Plus shortcut button
If you have the Marker Plus, its barrel button has a shortcut. In Settings, then "Stylus", set it to "eraser" (hold to erase, release to return to the pen) or to cycle the last two tools. The eraser option is the popular choice.
-
Control how PDFs fit the screen
Open a PDF, open its view menu, and set the fit — "fit width", "fit page", or a custom zoom. For a document with wide margins, zoom in and pan, or prepare a margin-trimmed copy in Calibre so it fills the page without manual zoom.
-
There is no front light — plan around it
The Paper Pure has no front light, so there is nothing to configure there. In low light, a clip-on reading light on the top edge is the workaround; pick a warm one to keep the page comfortable.
