The Paper Pro has no USB file mode — documents come in through the reMarkable apps, email, or cloud links, and sync to the device over Wi-Fi. The desktop app is the workhorse for PDFs. Treat EPUB as a secondary format here: it opens, but the Paper Pro is not built to be your ebook reader, and a Kobo or Kindle does that job much better.

  1. Understand where documents live

Everything on the Paper Pro syncs through your reMarkable account. You add a document in one place — the desktop app, the mobile app, email or a linked cloud folder — and it appears on the device after a sync over Wi-Fi. There is no plain USB drive to drag files onto.

  2. Method A — the desktop app

Open the reMarkable app on your computer, sign in, and drag PDF or EPUB files into the library, or use "Import". They upload to your account and download to the Paper Pro on its next sync. This is the main method for a batch of PDFs.

  3. Method B — the mobile app and share sheet

On your phone, open a PDF and use "Share", then the reMarkable app, or add it inside the app. Good for a document that arrived by email on your phone.

  4. Method C — email to your device

With a reMarkable account you can email documents to a personal address shown in the account settings. Attachments are added to your library. Availability of this depends on your plan.

  5. Method D — cloud integrations

With a reMarkable Connect subscription you can link Google Drive, Dropbox or OneNote and browse and open files from them directly on the device. Without the subscription these integrations are limited or unavailable.

  6. Know the EPUB limitation

The Paper Pro opens EPUB, but its handling is basic — limited font and layout control, no library organisation to speak of, and some EPUBs render poorly. For serious ebook reading, a Kobo or Kindle is far better. Use the Paper Pro for PDFs and for the occasional EPUB you also want to mark up.

  7. Convert an EPUB to PDF if it renders badly

If an EPUB looks wrong on the device, convert it to PDF in Calibre first, choosing a page size close to the Paper Pro's screen. You lose reflow but gain a layout that displays and annotates reliably.
