Optimise a single app on the BOOX Palma 2

Every Android app on the Palma 2 gets its own optimisation dialog — refresh mode, contrast, DPI and animation handling. On this small a screen, DPI is the setting that fixes the most: nudge it down to make a cramped phone app readable, up to reclaim wasted space, and test after each change.

  1. Open the optimisation dialog

Swipe down the status bar and tap the app-optimisation icon while the app is open, or find the app in the BOOX app drawer, long-press it, and choose "Optimise". A panel of sliders and toggles appears.

  2. Set the refresh mode

HD or Regal for reading apps. Balanced for apps with light scrolling. Fast or Ultrafast only for video-like content — text ghosts badly in those.

  3. Adjust DPI to fit the small screen

This is the key one on the Palma 2. Many apps assume a phone and pack in too much. Lower the DPI a notch or two to make buttons and text bigger; raise it if an app wastes space. Change it in small steps and reopen the app to check.

  4. Tune contrast and "bleach"

Use "enhance contrast" or "bleach" to darken faint grey text and clear a dingy background. Push it just far enough — too much crushes thin strokes.

  5. Handle animations

Turn on "filter animations" or "flatten" for apps that fade and slide. Fewer animations means fewer half-drawn frames on e-ink.

  6. Save and test

Close the dialog, fully reopen the app, and use it for a minute. Re-open the dialog to fine-tune. Settings are remembered per app.
