reMarkable Paper Pure

Comparisons

How this device stacks up against the alternatives.

The Paper Pure is reMarkable’s plain 10.3-inch writing tablet — no front light, no colour, no distractions — on newer internals than the reMarkable 2 and with a repairable, replaceable-battery design. It is a poor ebook reader, and some cloud features need a subscription.

  • reMarkable 2. The device the Paper Pure replaces. The reading and writing experience is very close; the Paper Pure adds a faster processor, more storage, a bigger replaceable battery, and repairability, while the reMarkable 2 has a far more mature community-modification scene (KOReader through Toltec is rock solid on it). Choose the Paper Pure new; choose a used or refurbished reMarkable 2 to save money or if you specifically want the settled KOReader setup.
  • Kindle Scribe. Also a 10-inch writing tablet, but a full Kindle too, so it reads Amazon books well and has a front light. Its notebooks live inside Amazon’s system with email-only export. Choose the Scribe if you want one device for Kindle books and notes; choose the Paper Pure for a more paper-like writing feel, deeper note organisation and open export — accepting the weak reader and no light.
  • reMarkable Paper Pro. The same software with an 11.8-inch colour screen and a front light, for more money and weight. Choose the Paper Pro if you want colour or the bigger page and a light; choose the Paper Pure for a lighter, cheaper, plainer writing slate.
