Get documents onto the reMarkable 2
The desktop app, the mobile app, email, cloud integrations and the local USB web interface for moving PDFs and EPUBs to the reMarkable 2 — and an honest note about EPUB.
The reMarkable 2 has no plain USB file mode, but it does have more transfer routes than the newer models: the apps, email, cloud links, and a local USB web interface at 10.11.99.1 that works without touching cloud sync. The desktop app is the workhorse for PDFs. Treat EPUB as secondary — the stock reader is weak, and KOReader is the fix if EPUB reading matters to you.

Understand where documents live
Everything on the reMarkable 2 syncs through your reMarkable account. You add a document in one place — the desktop app, the mobile app, email, a linked cloud folder, or the local USB interface — and it appears in your library. There is no plain USB drive to drag files onto.
-
Method A — the desktop app
Open the reMarkable app on your computer, sign in, and drag PDF or EPUB files into the library, or use "Import". They upload to your account and download to the device on its next sync. This is the main method for a batch of PDFs.
-
Method B — the mobile app and share sheet
On your phone, open a PDF and use "Share", then the reMarkable app, or add it inside the app. Good for a document that arrived by email on your phone.
-
Method C — email to your device
With a reMarkable account you can email documents to a personal address shown in the account settings. Attachments are added to your library. Availability depends on your plan.
-
Method D — the local USB web interface
The reMarkable 2 has a hidden local upload page. Connect it by USB, enable "USB web interface" in Settings, then open 10.11.99.1 in a browser on the computer and drag files onto that page. It works offline and does not touch your cloud sync — handy for a quick transfer or when Wi-Fi is awkward.
-
Method E — cloud integrations
With a reMarkable Connect subscription you can link Google Drive, Dropbox or OneNote and open files from them directly on the device. Without the subscription these are limited or unavailable.

Know the EPUB limitation
The reMarkable 2 opens EPUB, but its handling is basic — limited font and layout control, no library organisation to speak of, and some EPUBs render poorly. For serious ebook reading, a Kobo or Kindle is far better, or install KOReader. Use the stock reader for PDFs and the occasional EPUB you also want to mark up.
