PocketBook InkPad Color 3

Comparisons

How this device stacks up against the alternatives.

The InkPad Color 3 is PocketBook’s large colour reader: a 7.8-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 screen, bottom page-turn buttons, IPX8 waterproofing, a built-in speaker with Bluetooth, and open format support. Colour makes it good for comics, magazines and illustrated non-fiction, at the cost of slightly softer black-and-white text.

  • PocketBook InkPad 4. The same body and features without the colour layer. Its black-and-white text is a touch crisper and it costs a little less. Choose the InkPad 4 if you rarely read colour content; choose the Color 3 if comics or magazines are a real part of your reading.
  • BOOX Note Air 4 C. A 10.3-inch colour Android tablet with a stylus, running the Kindle, Kobo and Libby apps as well as its own reader. It is far more flexible and better for notes, but needs more setup, has weaker standby, and no simple on-device library-book support. Choose the BOOX for apps and handwriting; choose the InkPad Color 3 for a simple, long-lasting colour reader that just works.
  • Kobo Libra Colour. A smaller 7-inch colour Kobo with buttons, a stylus and a polished store, but a closed format list, no speaker, and less room for a comic page. Choose the Libra Colour for Kobo’s ecosystem and note-taking; choose the InkPad Color 3 for the bigger screen, the speaker and format freedom.
