PocketBook InkPad 4
KOReader
Installing and living with the KOReader reading app.
PocketBook is one of the platforms KOReader supports directly. There is no jailbreak and no exploit: you copy KOReader’s application file into the device’s “applications” folder, and it shows up in the PocketBook app menu next to the stock reader. Opening it starts KOReader; closing it returns you to PocketBook’s own software.
Why add it
On a 7.8-inch screen the case for KOReader is stronger than on a small reader:
- PDF and DjVu handling — per-document crop that is remembered, a sharper reflow, column detection, and a fast “go to page” that the stock reader handles less gracefully with big files.
- Finer typography — margin, line-spacing and hyphenation control beyond what PocketBook exposes.
- Consistency — the same reading app and settings as your other devices, with a synced position.
- Configurable buttons and gestures — every press and swipe can be assigned an action, including landscape-friendly ones.
Why you might not
You lose the PocketBook store, Send-to-PocketBook delivery, Adobe-DRM library books, text-to-speech and audiobook playback while inside KOReader. If you use those, you will be switching between the two readers.
