PocketBook InkPad 4

Comparisons

How this device stacks up against the alternatives.

The InkPad 4 is PocketBook’s large black-and-white reader. Its case is the 7.8-inch, 300-ppi screen: full PDFs, comics, sheet music and textbooks without constant zooming, plus buttons, IPX8 waterproofing, a built-in speaker with Bluetooth, and open format support.

  • PocketBook InkPad Color 3. The same body and features with an E Ink Kaleido 3 colour layer. Colour comes at a cost — the black-and-white text is a touch less crisp and the colour itself is muted and lower-resolution. Choose the Color 3 if you read colour comics, magazines or illustrated non-fiction; choose the InkPad 4 if you want the sharpest possible text and a slightly lower price.
  • PocketBook Era. The same software and audio in a 7-inch body that is smaller, lighter and easier to hold one-handed, but with less room for a full-size PDF page. Choose the Era for novels and portability; choose the InkPad 4 when documents are the main job.
  • Kobo Libra Colour. A 7-inch Kobo with buttons, waterproofing, colour and a stylus, but a closed format list, no speaker, and a smaller screen for PDFs. Choose the Libra Colour for Kobo’s store and note-taking; choose the InkPad 4 for the big screen and format freedom.
