The Sage’s case is a large Kobo with buttons, waterproofing and a stylus, in an open ecosystem. It is from 2021, so it is the oldest of the current Kobo line.
- Kobo Libra Colour. The newer 7-inch Kobo. Smaller and lighter, colour screen, current-generation panel, also with buttons, waterproofing and stylus support. Unless you specifically want the Sage’s bigger 8-inch page, the Libra Colour is the more up-to-date choice.
- Kindle Scribe. Amazon’s 10.2-inch writing tablet. Much better at note-taking — proper notebooks, handwriting-to-text, PDF markup — but a closed Amazon device, not waterproof, and heavier. Choose the Scribe if writing is a major use; choose the Sage for an open reader that also takes notes.
- Kobo Clara BW. The small, cheap Kobo. No buttons, no waterproofing, no stylus, 6-inch screen. Choose it if you want the lightest plain reader and do not need the Sage’s size or extras.
