The Libra Colour’s case for existing is the combination of physical page-turn buttons, a colour screen and waterproofing in a 7-inch body. The devices below each drop one or more of those.

• Kobo Clara BW. Smaller, cheaper, black-and-white, no buttons, not waterproof. The right choice if you want the lightest possible plain reader and do not care about colour or a physical page turn.
• Kobo Sage. Larger 8-inch screen, also has buttons and a stylus, but it is black-and-white and from an older generation. Consider it if screen size matters more than colour.
• Kindle Paperwhite. Same 7-inch size and also waterproof, but black-and-white, no buttons, and tied to Amazon’s ecosystem, which makes sideloading and KOReader harder. Choose it only if you are committed to Kindle and Amazon purchases.
