Fonts, screensavers, gestures and other tweaks.
There is far less to change on a Kindle than on a Kobo. Amazon does not support custom sleep images, screensaver folders or gesture remapping. What you can do:
- Deal with the lock-screen ads. Remove them with a one-time payment, or understand what a “with Special Offers” device does and does not show.
- Add your own fonts. Kindles read user fonts from a “fonts” folder on the device, the same idea as Kobo.
- Adjust the reading layout. Font size, boldness, line spacing, margins and alignment, all in the reading menu (the “Aa” button).
- Turn off Whispersync, Popular Highlights and the like in Settings, if you find them distracting.
For anything beyond that — full typography control, custom screens, per-gesture actions — the honest answer is KOReader, which means jailbreaking.
