BOOX Page

KOReader

Installing and living with the KOReader reading app.

The Page runs Android, so KOReader is just an app. You install it from the Google Play Store or by sideloading the Android APK — there is no jailbreak, no launcher to register, and the stock BOOX software is untouched.

Why put it on a BOOX

The BOOX stock reader (NeoReader) is capable, and the Kindle and Kobo apps cover store books, so the reasons to add KOReader are specific:

  • Typography and layout control beyond what NeoReader or the store apps expose — fine margin, hyphenation and font-weight settings.
  • Format range — CBZ, CBR, FB2, DjVu and a genuinely usable PDF reflow, all in one app.
  • Its own refresh handling — KOReader manages e-ink refresh itself and often looks cleaner than a generic app forced through BOOX’s optimisation.
  • Configurable buttons — the Page’s physical page-turn buttons, and every gesture, can be assigned an action inside KOReader.
  • Consistency — the same reading app and settings as your other devices, with a synced position.

What to know

  • KOReader will not open DRM-protected store books (Kindle, Kobo purchases, library loans). Use the store apps for those.
  • After installing, set KOReader’s BOOX per-app refresh mode to HD or Regal, and let KOReader control full refresh from inside its own settings.
