BOOX Note Air 4 C

KOReader

Installing and living with the KOReader reading app.

The Note Air 4 C runs Android, so KOReader is just an app. You install it from the Google Play Store or by sideloading the Android APK — no jailbreak, no launcher to register, and the stock BOOX software is untouched.

Why put it on a Note Air 4 C

The BOOX stock reader (NeoReader) is capable and handles PDFs and pen markup well, so the reasons to add KOReader are specific:

  • Typography and layout control beyond what NeoReader or the store apps expose — fine margin, hyphenation and font-weight settings, on a large page.
  • Format range — CBZ, CBR, FB2, DjVu and a genuinely usable PDF reflow, all in one app.
  • Its own refresh handling — KOReader manages e-ink refresh itself and often looks cleaner than a generic app forced through BOOX’s optimisation.
  • Consistency — the same reading app, settings and synced position as your other devices.

What to know

  • KOReader will not open DRM-protected store books (Kindle, Kobo purchases, library loans). Use the store apps for those.
  • KOReader has no pen or handwriting support — keep NeoReader or BOOX Notes for markup.
  • After installing, set KOReader’s BOOX per-app refresh mode to HD or Regal, black-and-white, and let KOReader control full refresh from inside its own settings.
