BOOX Note Air 4 C

Comparisons

How this device stacks up against the alternatives.

The Note Air 4 C’s case is that it does two jobs on one device: a colour e-ink reader that runs every store’s app, and a large pen tablet for notes and PDF markup. The trade-off is setup — refresh modes, per-app optimisation, and a colour layer that mutes the screen — and shorter standby than a single-purpose device.

  • Kindle Scribe. A bigger, black-and-white, locked Amazon device with the best-polished note experience and superb battery life, but no apps beyond Amazon’s and export only by email. Choose the Scribe if you live in the Kindle store and want writing to just work; choose the Note Air 4 C if you need colour, other apps, or files you can copy off over USB.
  • reMarkable Paper Pro. A colour e-ink writing tablet with the best pen feel and a clean, distraction-free design, but a deliberately closed system with a subscription for some cloud features and very limited reading apps. Choose the reMarkable if writing is the whole point; choose the Note Air 4 C if reading apps matter as much as the pen.
  • BOOX Go Color 7. The same BOOX Android software and colour e-ink in a small 7-inch reader with no pen. Choose it if you want a pocketable colour reader and do not need note-taking; the Note Air 4 C is the choice when you want the big screen and the stylus.
