Optimise a single app on the BOOX Go 6

The per-app optimisation dialog controls refresh, contrast, DPI and animations for one app. Here is what each setting does and sensible starting points.

The optimisation dialog is where a BOOX goes from “usable” to “good”. On the small Go 6 screen, the DPI setting is especially worth your time — many Android apps assume a phone and look cramped until you rescale them. Otherwise: pick a refresh mode, set full-refresh frequency (off for KOReader), nudge contrast only if text is grey, and filter animations.

  1. Open the optimisation dialog for an app

From the Apps screen, long-press an app and choose "Optimise" (or open the app, then swipe down for the control centre and tap the optimisation icon). A panel of sliders and toggles appears, applying only to that app.

  2. Set the refresh mode

Text readers get HD or Regal; browsers and stores get Balanced or Fast. This overrides the global mode whenever the app is in front.

  3. Set full refresh frequency

Every 1 page is cleanest but flickers most; every 3 to 5 is a common compromise. For an app that manages its own refresh (KOReader), turn this off.

  4. Adjust contrast, bleach and sharpen

"Enhance contrast" or "bleach whites" fixes grey-looking text. Use it sparingly — too much crushes thin fonts. "Sharpen" or "bold text" can help small type, which matters on the 6-inch screen.

  5. Fix the DPI so phone apps are not cramped

Many apps show a tiny phone-sized layout on the small screen. The DPI slider rescales the app — nudge it until buttons and text are comfortable, then reopen the app to apply. This is one of the most useful settings on a 6-inch BOOX.

  6. Filter animations

"Animation filter" stops page-curl effects, fade-ins and spinners that stutter on e-ink. Turn it on for almost every reading and store app.

  7. Handle dark themes

If an app forces a dark theme, use the optimisation dialog's colour-invert or "force light" option so text is dark-on-light.
